Literacy Now Cowichan AGM
Join Literacy Now Cowichan for our Annual General Meeting as we reflect on the past year, share updates, and look ahead to the future of literacy initiatives in our community.
The AGM will include the presentation of annual reports, a review of financial statements, and the election of directors for the upcoming term. Members will have the opportunity to learn more about the organization's work, participate in the governance of the organization, and connect with fellow supporters of literacy in the Cowichan Valley.
Everyone is welcome to attend and learn more about Literacy Now Cowichan’s ongoing efforts to support literacy, learning, and community connections.

Join The Red Balloon Toyshop and Ravensburger in a race against the clock to see who can complete their 500 piece puzzle the fastest!
How it works:
Everyone will be given the same Ravensburger 500-piece puzzle to start at exactly the same time. With the clock ticking, your team will race to complete your puzzle fastest and hope to win the grand prize. The fastest three teams will receive a gift certificate from The Red Balloon Toyshop. $100, $50, $25 respectively.
The event is limited to persons 10 years old and older.
Please arrive for check-in between 6:30-6:45pm. The puzzle race will begin promptly at 7:00pm, late comers will not be credited any time.
Each team will get to keep the puzzle even if it is not completed in the allotted time.

This show will pair the intricate mixed-media paintings of Dr. Cathy Key with the intriguing sculptural figures of Louise Solecki Weir — two artists working in different mediums, whose pieces carry a quiet psychological intensity that is tender, empowered, and of the earth.
In this exhibit, you are invited to reflect, recognize, and remember that we are not separate from the living world, but expressions of it. Key's mixed-media paintings draw the viewer in to explore an intricate and luminous world. Weir's sculptures, by contrast, are imbued with an ancient remembrance and stand with a potent stillness. What brings Sacred Forms to life is the dynamic exchange between the two distinct bodies of work.
Mark your calendar for an Art Café talk at the Gallery on Saturday, October 17th from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Both artists will be in attendance.
Admission is by donation.

The Sampson Matthews print program was the largest public art project in Canadian history.
Launched at the start of the Second World War, it lasted 22 years and cost tens of millions of dollars in today’s currency. At its height, it employed many of the country’s best commercial printers, designers and artists, working full-time to create masterpieces of serigraphy – exquisite oversize silkscreen prints from a who’s who of Canadian leading contemporary artists, including David Milne, Charles Comfort, Emily Carr, B.C. Binning, Lawren Harris, A.Y. Jackson and four other painters from the Group of Seven, plus earlier masterworks from Tom Thompson, J.W. Morrice, and Clarence Gagnon.
For three decades, these evocative silkscreens hung in schools, libraries, banks, government offices, insurance companies, and dentists’ waiting rooms from Whitehorse to Newfoundland, and in embassies, consulates, and mess halls around the world.”

Art lovers have a rare opportunity to bid on an original work by Robert Bateman or Luke Marston and take home a unique piece of functional local art!
The community is invited to the 4th Annual Artist-Painted Nest Box Auction & Artist Appreciation Event.
The evening brings together an incredible collection of works from renowned professional and local Indigenous artists, including:
Renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman (contributing for his 3rd year!)
Acclaimed local Indigenous artist Luke Marston (who generously took time out from major commissions for his 3rd auction entry!)
The Cause: This year's goal is to raise $12,000! Every bid helps complete the Malcolm’s Place Project and funds ongoing repairs and maintenance for the Somenos Marsh Open Air Classroom. A great turnout will encourage competitive bidding and help reach this important milestone.
